Countdown for Jira

A dashboard gadget that shows how many days are left until a date you choose.

It only reads a date you type in. Countdown does not read your issues, your projects, or anything else in Jira. It asks for no permissions at all, and it stores nothing except the settings of the gadget itself.

Install it

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Find new apps in your Jira site.
  2. Search for Countdown by Onesty and select Get app.
  3. You need to be a Jira administrator to install apps. If you are not, send this page to the person who is.

Add it to a dashboard

  1. Go to Dashboards and open the dashboard you want, or create a new one.
  2. Select Edit, then Add gadget.
  3. Find Countdown in the list and select Add.
  4. The settings form opens straight away. Fill it in and select Save.

About business days

Business days skip Saturday and Sunday. Public holidays are not skipped. Holidays differ by country and by company, and a built-in list would be wrong for most people, so Countdown does not guess.

Which day is “today”

The count uses the date on the device you are looking at. Two people in different time zones may briefly see a different number near midnight. This is intentional — you want the answer for your calendar.

Change the settings later

  1. Hover over the gadget and select the ••• menu in its top-right corner.
  2. Select Edit (on some dashboards this is under the dashboard’s own Edit mode).
  3. Change what you need and select Save.

Remove it

Remove one gadget

Open the gadget’s ••• menu and select Remove. This deletes that gadget and its settings. Nothing else is affected — Countdown never writes to your issues, so there is nothing left behind.

Uninstall the app

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Manage apps.
  2. Find Countdown and select Uninstall.
  3. Any Countdown gadgets still on dashboards stop showing. Your dashboards and issues are untouched.
